Although the tradition of celebrating the parents' day is still relatively new, the whole world has adopted it, and from 2011 it is celebrated in European countries. But, it deserves respect and veneration every day. In Europe, the occasion is celebrated on the third Sunday of May. According to General Secretary of Parent's Network Flanders vzw, Marcel De Baukeleer, "we have a different culture of observing parents' day. We celebrate it as a way of honoring the parents, and recognizing them as the best role models for children."
Father's Day
Father's Day is a popular day for celebrating fathers, usually the third Sunday of June. The holiday originated in the United States, where it is observed on June 19, the birthday of William Jackson Smart. Smart had raised his six children on his own after his wife died in childbirth. A woman named Sonora Smart Dodd had heard about Mother's Day and decided that her father deserved a day to be recognized. Having heard of her father's sacrifice, Sonora Smart Dodd approached her local church pastor about Father's Day and suggested a similar celebration for fathers. The pastor agreed, and the event became official in 1910.

The History of Mother's Day is a fascinating subject. In 1914, Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday of May Mother's Day. The holiday soon became commercialized, but its origins date back to Jarvis' mother, who spent her life actively protesting against the patriarchal nature of the occasion. In fact, it was Jarvis's mother who first proposed the idea of a day to honor mothers.
Global Day of Parents
The United Nations declared June 1 as the Global Day of Parents. The goal of this day is to promote awareness of parenthood and how parents play a vital role in the development of children. In celebration of this day, community leaders hold events to encourage effective parenting, host educational programs for parents, and promote the two-parent nuclear family. The history of the Global Day of Parents dates back to 1983 when the Economic and Social Council requested the Secretary-General to focus on family issues.
